My Food Insecurity Story
Sigh. I still feel funny about this, but a few months ago, I wrote about my visit to a local food pantry, which resulted in our getting no food.
We’ve been fine since then. Some friends and family helped us through that time, and things have been OK. When we got our tax refund at the beginning of March, we set aside money for an emergency fund, to help keep us from getting into that situation again.
Rebecca Gerendasy of Cooking Up a Story was interested in our story, as we don’t look like people who would be experiencing food insecurity, and since our story is not the kind that you might see on the local news. She came out to our house to film us and do an interview about what we’ve experienced. The video story is now posted over on her site.
I hope that our story will help people to think about food insecurity differently. It may be affecting more people than you know.

I can’t even imagine how hard these posts must have been for you, but I’m so glad you made them — these are, indeed, important things for people to know. It’s truly something that can happen to anybody, and is.

thank you so much for sharing this. difficult times changes our perspective on what we’ll share, & what we learn about the society in which we live. i just watched the video via miro. i’m glad to hear things are a bit better, & that you have friends & family to lend a hand. this type of situation crushes the spirit & hurts the heart. i wish you the best. there’s so much emotion that’s diff to verbalise, but i just wanted to touch base, say thanks, & take a look at your blog.

Thank you for sharing and for your honesty. This is a bigger issue than some realize.
