It might be a wise idea to check for Vitamin D deficiency with your doctor. Many many women in the PacNW have it; may be responsible for some of your symptoms here.

My UPS delivery finally came today. Merry Christmas! <<>> But seriously, I'm sorry you're having a tough time, but I'm glad you're blogging about it. That, in itself, is brave: to listen to yourself, to work on yourself, to write about yourself. I look forward to hearing about the book. I've started light therapy, increased vitamin and fruit intake, and have scheduled a trip to Mexico in March. SUNSHINE! I am determined to make it through Winter.

The book sounds great. Maybe I'll get it, too. I've suffered from depression for some time and have been given Celexa for it. It really helps, at least in my case.

One thing that works but might sound strange is to laugh. Read a book with a lot of humor, watch a comedy. Remember the Reader's Digest featured called "Laughter, the Best Medicine"? It really is. I'm not saying to do it long term but it will help in the here and now.

My stuff has all been delivered now except one package. UPS has lost track of it. They say be patient for a few more days and if it doesn't show up, they'll declare it lost. It was on the truck out for delivery on the 22nd then vanished!

Kathleen,

Thanks for mentioning that book. It sounds like something I could use as well. I lost my Mom three weeks ago, plus being a true cold winter and snow hater, I've been feeling "down" much more than usual. I know they can tweak my meds, but I'd like to have better skills to cope with some of it myself. Let me know what you think of the book.

Hospice offers some after death grief counseling and I'm starting to think it may be a good idea for me to check it out.

Thanks for posting this. Your transparency will help many.

I'm excited to hear your thoughts on the book after you read it. I pray you will find insight in it that will help you and others. Depression is very real and can be so debilitating.

Know that you are loved,
gaj

Good for you.

I didn't make the connection between my almost regular wintertime depression and SAD until two years ago. Before that, I just struggled. Now that I know what I'm up against, I can start preparing in September. Food, light, exercise and drugs - they're all good.

Hi Kathleen, Hope the book helps. Sounds like you found your way to a good therapist. I'm still waiting for four packages from UPS, though the FedEx truck arrived this morning unexpectedly. You are wise to devote time to self-care above else. Everything else will wait. Charlotte
