Bicycle Commuting Mama: Ebbing and Flowing and (Bi)Cycling
WARNING
If you have a problem with TMI about bodily functions (especially if you are male) don’t read this. You have been warned.
————————————————-
This post was inspired by a tweet from Melissa Lion yesterday afternoon: “Ebbing and flowing. But mostly ebbing now.”
My first thought was “well, I’ve got the flowing part down!” I deemed that TMI for Twitter, though. (Yes, this is publicly posted, too. I gave you fair warning, though, didn’t I?)
What I’m really here to tell you, though, is that bicycling while wearing a menstrual pad is quite uncomfortable. Cloth, paper, plastic, thin, whatever, I don’t think it matters. It is not comfortable.
Wear a tampon, you say? I did! Or, I could use a Diva Cup or Keeper, which I’ve never gotten around to doing. But after giving birth three times, I really need a backup, too.
BikePortland.org has covered this issue as well. At least 15-20 women there recommended using the cups. They say it’s a life-changing experience. I think I’d still be afraid to go without backup.

My sister is a big Keeper fan. I’m a big baby about convenience; I’ll stick with the OB, thanks.

I didn’t know what a Diva Cup was until I cliked on the link. Then I rememberd I used it once.
