Laurie, my sister who doesn’t have a website I can link to (although I’ll give a shout-out to my brother-in-law Matthew for her), reminded me that I haven’t actually posted about my Pie-Off experience!  I forget that some things are common knowledge on Twitter, but perhaps not elsewhere.

OurPDX reported on the beginnings of the Pie-Off.  It was all the result of Twitter conversations.  Therefore, many, although I think not all, of the participants were Portland-area Tweeples.

Being pretty new on the Twitter scene, I thought this would be a great opportunity to meet some Tweeples in person, and get to know other people in the blogging/tech/writing community around here — and it was!  I’m very glad that I went, because it was a lot of fun.  I never expected to win anything, but ended up with two blue ribbons — Best Faux Pie and Most Original Pie.

What was this Faux Pie?  Well, faux pie is…non-traditional pie, like no-bake Jello pudding pie or Ritz cracker apple pie.  Pie-Off Commissioner Lizzy Caston explained it well before the competition.

Dr. Pepper Pie is based on a recipe for Coca Cola Cuba Libre Pie.  I simply substituted Dr. Pepper for Coca-Cola, and also replaced the rum and lime juice with Dr. Pepper.  All Dr. Pepper.  I put it in a crushed cornflake crust (just like graham cracker crust, but with cornflake crumbs), topped it with the remainder of the Cool Whip, and sprinkled it with grated dark chocolate.

Mmmpie!
